The Thing

Melting Snow, River Flow, and Kurt Russell’s Questionable Antarctic Wardrobe

The Thing  focuses on a research team in Antarctica who come across a shape-shifting alien excavated from the ice. While unearthing evil aliens is unlikely, melting ice does pose a significant risk. Why should we care? We learned from Dr. Gabriel Lewis, Glaciologist and Hydrologist at UC San Diego Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes, all about snowpack, its impact on water resources, and how climate change plays a role.
