Dr. Strangelove

Moab’s Radioactive Geology; Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Wonder Why the Rocks are Glowing

As one of Moab’s first in-person events since the start of the pandemic, our first Science on Screen® event of the 2021 season took place on April 16 at Swanny Park.

Examining the cult classic “Dr. Strangelove” through the lens of Moab’s history as a uranium boom town, we learned from geologist Chris Benson exactly why Moab’s rocks are so radioactive — and whether you can still find hot rocks on your day hikes.

Science on Screen is an initiative of the COOLIDGE CORNER THEATRE,
with major support from the ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION.
