Our Story
Science Moab began in 2017 when founder Dr. Kristina Young recognized the need for greater access to place-based science in southeastern Utah and across the Colorado Plateau. She started a radio show on local station KZMU, in which she began airing conversations with scientists working in the region. This radio show, which continues to air monthly, was joined in late 2018 by Science Moab On Tap, a fun community event featuring scientists giving engaging talks at local bars.
From there, Science Moab has continued expanding to fit community needs. We incorporated as a nonprofit in April 2019, and today, Science Moab features a variety of programs, including our ongoing radio show and Science Moab On Tap. Our School to Science program, which launched in late 2021, pairs high school students with scientist mentors for hands-on experience in place-based science experiences. Our Science Certified program trains outdoor recreation guides in communicating necessary place-based science principles to their clients, Moab’s visitors. Science Moab has been dedicated to the same mission since day one: continuing to make place-based science accessible to all.
